Obituary of Lester R. "Bob" Matthews
Lester R. “Bob” Matthews, 85, of Farmingdale passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Lester was born in Fitkin Memorial Hospital and was a life-long resident of Farmingdale. He proudly served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War from 1960-1962. Lester retired as a building inspector for the City of New Brunswick. He was a member of the V.F.W., Vietnam Veterans of America, and the American Legion. Lester had a green thumb in the garden and relished his time visiting family in Maryland.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Clifford Matthews and Carlton Matthews and a sister, Janice Lee Dey. Lester is survived by his sisters-in-law, Judith Matthews and Carol Matthews; nephews, Carlton Edward Matthews, James Moore, Robert Dey, Kip Matthews, and Kenneth Matthews; nieces, Shelly McAteer, Cherie Bedwell and Julie Bedwell; and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
All arrangements were private by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
