Obituary of Doris Davison Mele

Doris Davison Mele, 96, of Howell Township passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Brandywine Living, Howell.  Doris was born in Adelphia to Thomas and Amy Roe.  She was raised and lived in Adelphia moving to Camp Hill, PA in 1997 where she and her husband owned and operated the Audubon Motel.  In 2005 she returned to NJ and settled in Howell Township.  Dot was proud of her role as a life member of Adelphia Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, doing arts and crafts, and visiting Atlantic City in her free time. Dot was known for her dirty jokes which would always make others around her laugh.  Above all, she was a devoted grandma, “nanny”, mother, and sister.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Norman Kenneth Davison; infant son, John Davison; second husband, Joseph Mele; and thirteen siblings. Dot is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Van Dusen and her husband, Allen of Jackson; sister, Pearl DeBow of DE; two granddaughters, Dawn Williams and her husband, Robert, and Jennifer Dunne and her husband, Patrick, all of Jackson; three great grandchildren, Kayla, Hannah and Joseph; and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, January 30, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM funeral service at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.  For those who can not attend in person the services will be webcast HERE. Interment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
