Obituary of Elizabeth June Kellis

Elizabeth Irene June Kellis, 87, of Brick passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, with her family by her side at The Chelsea at Brick. She was born and raised in Perth Amboy, and had lived in Spotswood, Lakewood, and Lakehurst before settling in Brick in 2013. Elizabeth worked as a Secretary for Lakehurst Naval Base for many years retiring in 1998. 

Elizabeth (Betty) had polio and scarlet fever during childhood.  She spent several of her early years in hospitals, including receiving treatment in an iron lung, but never lost hope and did not let the resulting paralysis of her right arm limit her in any way. She was a very determined woman who persevered by believing you do the best you can with what you’ve been given. Learning to live as a lefty with one arm, she raised four children, cherished family and friends, enjoyed a career, loved the beach, taking walks and riding her bicycle. She was brave, protective and fiercely loyal, especially when it came to her family.  Kindness was always at the forefront of everything she did, within her relationships and world view. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vincent Kellis; daughter, June Bennett; and two sisters, Peggy and Diane. Elizabeth is survived by her children, George Bennett of Lakewood, Robert Bennett of New York, and Phyllis (Kelli) Brandl and her husband, Brian of Farmingdale; and six cherished grandchildren, Annie, Rossi, Alex, Miles, George, and Brian Finn. 

A gathering of friends will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM with her memorial service to begin at 11:30 AM.
