Obituary of Bernard J. "Bernie" Costello
Bernard J. “Bernie” Costello, 77, of Allenhurst passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Brooklyn and was raised in Colonia before settling in Allenhurst in 1998. Bernie was a successful businessman who owned several real estate agencies and a mortgage company during his lifetime. He was a dedicated Commercial Loan Officer for JP Morgan Chase & Co. In addition to his successful career, Bernie found joy in cheering on his grandchildren during their events and spending time with his family. He was a proud member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and a friend of Bill W. Bernie also served on the Allenhurst Planning Board for over 20 years, where he made a lasting impact on his community. In his free time, Bernie enjoyed pursuing his passion for music as a singer/songwriter and playing Geocaching. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, intellect and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
Bernie is predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Ann Costello; sister, Denise Costello; and stepson, William Lloyd. He is survived by his wife, Ann Costello; son, Bernard Costello “BJ” and his wife, Jacqueline of Fox Chapel, PA; step daughter, Michelle Furrer and her husband, Richard of Cookstown; ten grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Kristen, Melissa and her husband, Hunter, Callie, Richard, Cullen, Mark, Cayla, Mia, James and Michael; two great grandchildren, Phoenix and Madison; sister, Mary Ellen Dolan; niece, Lauren and her husband, Michael; nephew, Joseph and his wife, Andrea; great nephews, Neil and Thomas; and step daughter-in-law, Kelly Lloyd.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM memorial mass on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Church of St. Veronica, 4215 Highway 9 North, Howell. Interment will be private.
