Obituary of Joseph J. Campbell
Joseph J. Campbell, 77, of Howell Township passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Lakewood. Joe was born in Manhattan and raised in Astoria, Queens. He had lived in Brooklyn before moving to the Bay Terrace section of Staten Island where he lived for over fifty years. Joe downsized to the Fours Seasons at Monmouth Woods four years ago. He was a member of the International Longshoremen's Association, Local 1814. Joe retired from Port Elizabeth and the Military Ocean Terminal, Bayonne. He previously worked for NY Shipping Association and in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Joe and Carol, a couple clearly in love, reveled in their shared passion for cruising. Back on land, Joe couldn't resist the siren song of the Atlantic City boardwalk. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he'd head straight for the slots and Joker Poker machines, hoping to tempt fate with a lucky spin. Whether he walked away with a jackpot or not, the thrill of the game, the clinking of coins, and the vibrant energy of the casino always brought a smile to his face. Surrounded by a love story that spanned 57 years, Joe was cherished by his wife, was a doting father and was adored as Pop Pop by his grandchildren.
Joe was predeceased by a brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Carol (nee Giordano) Campbell; two children, Joseph Campbell II and his wife, Lisa of Howell and Traci Campbell and her husband, Chris Seminara of Middletown; two grandchildren, Joseph Campbell III and his fiancée, Stephanie Talbot and Megan Campbell; a sister, Mary Ann Auletta; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
