Obituary of Ilene "Nenie" Knudsen

Ilene “Nenie” Knudsen, 78, of Freehold passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2024 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.  She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and had lived in Bay Ridge and Breezy Point, NY before settling here in 2021.  In her early life, she enjoyed traveling, most notably to Russia and Norway, and spending summers in Lordville, New York with her family.  Her career was as a Claims Analyst for New York Life Insurance Company. Ilene adored taking photos of her loved ones and displaying them on a slide show at family gatherings. Known by all as an animal lover, she also enjoyed Bingo night at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, trips to Atlantic City and stopping in at The Sugar Bowl in Breezy Point before hitting the beach. Ilene took great pleasure in celebrating family member’s birthdays and holidays, she was the main person to announce presents. She liked going to the movies, was very fashionable and could be found shopping in her spare time. 

Ilene was predeceased by her husband, Walter Allen; parents, Albert and Isma Knudsen; and brother-in-law, George Mason.  She is survived by her sister, Isma Mason; nieces, Isma Ilene Kielty and her husband, Timothy, and Sheri Kruesi and her husband, William; great nieces and nephew. Shaylyn, Isma, Liam, Abby, Tara and Cassidy; great great niece, Juliet; uncle, Ralphie Knudsen; cousins, Gary Knudsen and Betty Jane Ryan and her husband, Robert; canine nieces, Angel, Sailor, Haley, Shadow, Summer and Clover; and her loving cat, Turvy.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold.  Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Queens, NY 11379.  For those who desire, memorial contributions in Ilene’s name may be made to FARA (Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance), 533 W.
