Obituary of Robert John Urban

Robert John Urban, 76, of Howell passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He was born and raised in Rahway and had lived in Elizabeth and Linden before settling in Howell in 1981. Robert served in the Marine Corps, where he displayed unwavering courage and commitment to his country. His life was filled with highlights of bravery and selflessness, inspiring those around him to be better versions of themselves. Robert was a dedicated maintenance worker for the Union Board of Education for many years, where he took great pride in keeping the schools running smoothly for the students and staff. He was a member of the Jackson Knights of Columbus council #6201, where he found camaraderie and community. In his free time, Robert enjoyed bowling, fishing and crabbing with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories and bonds with them. Robert also loved taking frequent trips to Manasquan beach, where he could relax and take in the beauty of the ocean. He enjoyed spending time at the Monmouth racetrack and loved the excitement of special race days. His passion for horse racing was evident to all who knew him, and he could often be found discussing the latest races with friends and fellow enthusiasts. His greatest accomplishment and joy in life was his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who cherished spending time with his loved ones.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Walter Urban and Lois McNair; step parents, Elise Urban and Ray McNair and his brother, Dennis Urban. He is survived by his wife, Ada Urban of Howell; three children, Melissa Plastino and her husband, Justin of Morganville, Jessica Pettersson of Howell and Robert B. Urban of Howell; five grandchildren, Vanessa, Christopher, Sean, Isabella, Luca; sisters, Debbie Banic and her husband, Bobby and Nancy Wilke and her husband, Kenneth; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

 

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, on Saturday, October 19th from 12:00 to 3:30 PM with his funeral service to follow.
