Joe You are the song one of my favorites that always lifts my spirits filled with youthful fun and kind compassion You are the song that always calms me reminding me in times of chaos that nothing matters more than family You are the song that strengthens me to find the courage even when I'm sick and tired You are the song that inspires me to follow my passions and share them with the world You are the song one of my favorites as sweet and gentle as a lullaby so exuberant you have to dance the one that gets stuck in your head and will never leave you.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Joe's wife and children and family members, as well as the students who loved him. I knew Joe from childhood and he inspired me to become a musician and songwriter, when I first heard his group playing in the gym at my school. I remember listening to his bands; Axis and The Ascots. Joe's musical talent was amazing. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful person who touched many lives. I know he will always watch over you. Love lives on forever. God bless your family.
Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you all. Joe was a great teacher, my kids Loved the school plays they preformed in under his direction. He had a love of music that he shared with passion. Please know are thoughts are with you during this difficult time. May he rest in peace and my you take comfort in the prayers that are being offered.
Dear Barbara, I was so saddened to learn of Joe's passing. Viewing the photos in the memory book it is so evident that he loved his family very much and touched so many throughout his short life. My heart goes out to you and your entire family on your loss. I hope you will find comfort in the fact that a big piece of him will always be with you shining through in each one of the children you had together. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and always.
Dear Barbara Jean, I have just learned of Joe's passing and I want you know just how truly sorry I am for you and the family. Joe was a wonderful person and those times I spoke with him I enjoyed. I'm not good with names but I never forgot his and I always remembered he was a music teacher. I guess he made a positive impression on me because I never forgot him. I suspect he made a positive impression on many, many students and they will all share in your loss. People like Joe are few and far between and the world is short one very good soul this day. I am truly sorry and you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
I am heartbroken over the news of Mr. Lyttle's passing. His passion for music, for life, for teaching was truly special. He not only shared his joy of music with my children, he taught them chorus was "cool," to stand up for what is right, and to always do the right thing by those who love you and care for you. He was that once in a lifetime teacher parents pray for; whose moral compass and values helped shape those of your children when they needed it most, middle school. I feel truly blessed to have known him, that my children had the privilage of being in his class, in his life. He will be missed by all but "his music will play on " through those he touched, for that we can all find great comfort. To Mr. Lyttle's family--I pray for your strength in the days to come, comfort in his love of you, and peace in all that he did. He was a remarkable man.
The news of Joe's passing came with great sadness as I'm sure it did to many of his former students and friends of the community. The best memories that come to mind are Joe being the occasional strong arm at the middle school keeping everyone inline. From the Cornerstone to the warm summer Friday evenings poolside Joe entertained us. I'll always remember how he helped celebrate Robert's Birthday shortly after me losing Ann-Marie in 2001. I'll bring this note to a close by simply saying...loving thoughts to Joe and his family. Bob Tagle
Dear Barbra. Connor, Caitlin & Megan, we remember the most wonderful strong family man Joe was. And we are so very sorry for your loss of him.. We know you have shared many treasured years after he first got sick. It was a blessing to have such love & special times. We remember his zest for life and his love for music. Everyone at Barkalow and our neighborhood will always remember his smile and always passing by the house making his daily run. Thoughts and prayers Joe and to all of you. God Bless. Love Alan, Jackie, Kyle & max the lab.
Joe and his family lived next door to us when we were children. Our families were very close. We have such fond memories of Joe. His passion for music & singing, his sense of humor, his kind and caring ways are among many attributes which made him a pleasure to know. As children he had become part of our family as we had become part of his. One of my fondest memories is when he would get together with his brother and friends in his backyard playing their instruments and singing for all the neighbors. Our sincere condolences for the loss of your husband, father, brother and uncle. May his spirit remain with all of you as time passes on. He will be missed but never forgotten. God Bless all of you! In Loving Memory, George Gass & Family
I taught with Joe for many years It was always a fun time I am so sorry for your loss, but, who knows, he is probably up in heaven playing with John Lennon and George Harrison! My thoughts and prayers are with you , Jacky
Dear Barbara and beautiful family, May your courageous Joe be at peace. Try to think about your happy family times together and all the love and laughter you shared. May you all be comforted by many dear and meaningful memories. With heartfelt sympathy, Stephanie
Mr.Lyttle was the best music teacher I have ever had, but to me he was more than that, he was the one who gave me a love to sing and the one who gave me confidence in myself when I had none. Mr.Lyttle was more than just a music teacher or a musician to me and many of the people I know, he was a friend who pushed you to do better, who inspired you, and helped you to reach new heights. The world was better for having him in it and he will be greatly missed by many, If it were not for him I probably would not be around today, and I am not the only one, he has changed so many lives for the better that there truly are no words to describe the good he has done for every life he has touched. My condolences go out to Mrs.Lyttle, Caitlin, Meghan, Connor, and the rest of his family as well and I hope you will all be strong and never give up on music because I am sure that is what he would want.
My condolences to your entire family. Mr. Lyttle taught myself, brother, and sister 20 years ago. He really helped inspire me musically. From The Beatles to summer band (jazz band was great!), it was always nice to share my love of music with him. Thanks for everything! I'm sure he's rocking out with John and George right now..
Mr. Lyttle was my homeroom and music teacher at Barkalow and I can picture him always running by my parent's house when I was home to visit. I remember hearing about his tumor and being so inspired at his dedication to running in spite of the hardship. Here's to fighting the good fight, Mr. Lyttle, now you are at peace.
Dear Barbra, Connor, Caitlyn, Meghan, we are so sorry to hear about Joe. We shared many memorable years together as Neighbors, Friends and raising our young Families together. Joe defied the name Lyttle for everything that he did he did with HUGE strength, passion, and will. He knew what mattered in his life and that was you his beloved Family, his Students, and his Music that gave so much joy and influence to us. Joe one our favorite songs that you taught was from the Play Rent, "how do you measure the life of a Friend" God Bless you and and your life that you so willingly shared with us. Jimmy, Susan, Arianna, Jimmy, Danni Rocco
Mr. Lyttle was a huge influence in my life. He was my middle school music teacher in the late 80's. He showed me that being a musician could be cool. That I could play classical and still rock out. He taught me how to play drums and guitar just because I asked him to. He showed me how to listen to my trumpet and not just play it. He made me appreciate music and to be proud of the fact that I loved to play. Rest in Peace Mr. Lyttle and know I am a better man for knowing you...I am a better man because of you. Thank you for all you gave to so many!
Mr. Lyttle was my both my music teacher and choir instructor in 7th and 8th grade at Barkalow Middle School. He had a recognizable shuffle to his walk and was generally quiet in the halls. I remember quite well that he absolutely loved the Beatles and was fond of a golf simulation game he often played on the computer. After I left Barkalow, I frequently saw him around town and he always remembered me, even my name. We would have small discussions and then be on our way, but it was always nice to see him around and catch up, even if just for a few minutes. He was always nice to me and I am sad to hear about his passing.
So incredibly sorry to hear of the loss of an incredible, kind, talented, amazing man and teacher. Our love and deepest sympathy to you Barbara and kids. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered in our Freehold community. Forever in our hearts and prayers.
Our condolences and prayers to your family. Thank you Mr. Lyttle for sharing your love and appreciation of music with our son. He will remember you fondly. You will be missed by the Barkalow family.
Goodbye Joe. AXIS will always remember you...
I will always remember Mr. Lyttle playing his guitar at the 8th grade musicals, both of my granddaughters loved him, and learned to really hear the music and appreciate it as well. Rest in peace n play on, George is wiring for you.....

I remeber Joe playing in Axis and practicing in my friends Jim's garage. Great musician. God Bless him and his family.
Mr. Lyttle was one of the most memorable teachers I had. His love of the Beatles was infectious, it also seemed contagious. I always remember the excitement he brought to our classroom. He worked hard to bring out our talents, even when we had none. He insisted I try the clarinet, but no love match there ;-) Some of my most special memories I had from my time at Barkalow were with Mr, Lyttle. I always enjoyed spending time with him; chatting, playing the drums, & listening to the Beatles. It is apparent that he has impacted so many of us… his students. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May the memories of this wonderful man live on forever. Rest In Peace Mr. Lyttle......
Mr. Lyttle was one of the most memorable teachers I had. His love of the Beatles was infectious; and because of him, I bought my first Beatles album. I will always remember the excitement he would bring to the classroom and his incredible ability to bring out whatever musical "talents" were hidden in each one of us. While I am completely NOT musically inclined, he encouraged me to join the chorus...those were some of the most special memories I had from my time at Barkalow school. I also had the unique experience of having my son be taught by Mr. Lyttle as well. This man will truly be missed, as his impact on our community was profound. I applaud him for his brave battle against cancer and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest In Peace Mr. Lyttle......
My condolences to the Lyttle family. Mr Lyttle was my favorite teacher in middle school and fondly remember his passion for teaching. He will be missed by so many.
My thoughts go out to the Lyttle family. Know that his memory will always live on through the students he has touched so dearly. Mr. Lyttle cast me in my first musical, Pom Pom zombies. I have him to thank for introducing me to what would become the most amazing career musical theatre. I hope Mr. Lyttle's family and friends find comfort in knowing that his memory will live on on stages all across the country. I am so grateful to have studied under his guidance and will honor that In every music note sung.
Barbara and family: We feel fortunate that our children had the benefit of Joe's talent, enthusiasm and dedication as a teacher and coach, and have wonderful memories of music-filled July Friday nights at the pool club. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Mr. Lyttle was a wonderful teacher to all he taught. He was a favorite of all my childern who had him as a teacher. Barkalow has truly lost a great teacher and mentor. Our prayers & thoughts go out to his family.
Mr. Lyttle was my music teacher at Barkalow many years ago, and while I am far from musically inclined, he was able to get me excited and interested in performing. He was a strong, patient and kind man who will be missed by too many to count. He touched a tremendous amount of lives. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, students and loved ones.
I was a childhood playmate of joe's and we kept occassional contact through the years. I just heard the news and want to express my deepest condolence to Joe's family. My thoughts and prayers are with you
Our love and condolences to Barbara and family. Our family knew and loved Joe for a long time!
So sorry for your loss. My children truly enjoyed Mr. Lyttle's Music classes at Barkalow. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
When news came about of Mr. Lyttle's passing, it was news that brought heartbreak and memories among many of us. Mr. Lyttle shaped many of us in our musical endeavors, whether personal or professional. During my years at school, he brought us Clowns and "Pom Pom Zombies", and introduced many of us to the concept of 525,600 minutes. Still one of the best teachers I've known, the arts in school has truly lost a great teacher and mentor. I do wish his family and friends peace and my prayers are with you.
My prayers go out to Mr.Lyttle's family. I'm sorry for his loss. He was my music teacher back in Middle School and he was a very nice man. He will surely be missed by all!
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to Barb, Connor, Caitlin, Meghan and the whole family. Joe was an amazing person to so many of us in this world: musician, teacher, mentor, coach, colleague, friend. I feel blessed to have had the chance to work alongside him for twelve summers. "I think people who truly can live a life in music are telling the world, 'You can have my love, you can have my smiles. Forget the bad parts, you don't need them. Just take the music, the goodness, because it's the very best, and it's the part I give most willingly'" -George Harrison Joe truly lived a life of music, and he always gave, most willingly, his very best. He left his mark on this world, a world that will never be the same without him. Wishing you all love and strength during this time. --Lisa
As a student, Mr. lyttle shaped me musically. He taught me how to harmonize, cast me as a lead in the play, taught me music I never would have heard. He was a hero, and children today have lost an amazing mentor. The lyric "the day the music died" seems very appropriate. My condolences to his family, friends, and students.
Holding fast to memories of neighbor, teacher & musician this sad night. Sending prayers & condolences to all, Armin, Karen, Andy & Aaron
Our boys, Connor & Stephen, so enjoyed Mr Lyttle's music and band instruction at Barkalow. Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you; Joe will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
We will always remember Joe singing at the pool club and leading the middle school chorus, sharing his love of music with us all. We appreciated him and his music both as friends and as students. We will all miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
May you rest in peace Mr. Lyttle. The Barkalow Family will miss you dearly, but the Angels in Heaven now have a new music leader where your music lives on. Thoughts and Prayers go out to the Lyttle Family.

Joe was one our family's heros. His passion for music, for life, for family and his students was second to none. He will be missed... but his music will play on in all those who loved him! May he rest in peace. Heavens Band has a great new addition. There is a certain "chorus member" waiting for him and so we say... "Let it be..." The Briggs Family Donna, Todd, Steve

We would like to send our most sincere sympathy to the Lyttle family. Mr. Lyttle introduced both of us to our love of music, musicals, and singing, in our middle school years. We will be forever grateful for that and will always remember him for the wonderful, talented man he was. His legacy will live on through his former students, all the lives he has touched, and the wonderful children that he raised. Rest in peace Mr. Lyttle, and look down to guide your family through.
